“Ateneo is not a strong team; it’s a super strong team”
This is perhaps the best statement that anyone could give to describe the game that Ateneo played against La Salle in their first UAAP finals since capturing the championship in 2002. The offense was there but it was their strong defense that won them the game. Not even the tenacity of Casio and the smart plays that he was set up with could match Rabeh Al-Hussaini who showed great signs of maturity since the last season and who is, undoubtedly, a shoo-in contender for the highly coveted MVP crown. We can also give due credit to La Salle for their undying determination to change the course of the game even up to the last minute- definitely a mark of a true champion! If these things go on Ateneo’s way come Game 2 of the Championships, that is if they won’t slack on their defense and put more pressure on their offense then La Salle would have a hard time. But we can not count them out just of yet for we had seen countless of times how La Salle bounced back from a loss. As they say, when you are up against a more experienced team as La Salle, everything boils down to a David-versus-Goliath matchup, the more experienced team eventually making it, just like what happened to the Red Warriors who nearly played flawless the entire season, swept the eliminations with a 14-0 run enroute to the finals, only to be beaten in their last two important games.
So it's gonna be one heck of a fight for these two arch-rivals this coming thursday. Hopefully, just hopefully, my team on the BLUE side would win this time around. I believe everyone has their one shot at glory and I think this is just it. Ateneo, One Big Fight!
